Come pick and taste the best of what summer in Pajaro Valley has to offer at a local Organic Strawberry Patch & Farm Stand at Live Earth Farm, 1275 Green Valley Road, Watsonville. Spots are limited for two hours at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Farm Discovery and Live Earth Farm are partnering to make this event fun, safe and sweet. Ticket purchases support Farm Discovery’s farm-based nutrition, food systems and environmental education, as well as 2023’s produce distribution program for our community in need and emotional sanctuary farm walks. Come together as a community from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday to steward Tyrrell Park through the city’s Adopt-A-Park program at the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History garden learning center, 1305 E. Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz.

Participants will gain new wisdom about local ecology, native plants and sustainable gardening while connecting with nature outdoors. This native plant garden requires general landscaping, occasional watering, weeding and replanting. Please let us know if you need special accommodations when you email to RSVP. This program happens rain or shine, but we will cancel in the case of muddy conditions or inclement weather.

Birdsong Orchard Farm Stand will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the orchards, 613 Lakeview Road, Watsonville. The stand aims to be open most Saturdays for the next few months while the harvest season keeps rolling in. You can always check the very top of the website for hours and availability.

An advanced home composting and troubleshooting symposium is slated for 2-4 p.m. Sept. 24 in person at the Live Oak Grange, 1900 17th Ave., Santa Cruz. This is an intensive class on backyard composting techniques for those with some experience. Everyone at these symposia will have some experience and therefore will be an expert in their own methods. We come together as equals for lively discussion of common issues and sharing of what we have learned.

Santa Cruz County continues to offer monthly basic composting workshops from September through June 2024. To sign up for your preferred workshop dates online, visit goo.gl/Fw6BaK.
